From Spain to the Black Sea, passing through Italy and Greece, and talking to the north and south of Central European broadband network with the ever-present AUTOVON 490L: The network 486L Mediterranean Communications System (MEDCOM) is commissioned October 5, 1966 in Martina Franca by the Air Force of the United States and was Intended to create a backbone troposcatter linking Spain with the Middle East, through a hundred sites and LOS from the Tropo Iberian Peninsula via Italy (Sicily, Sardinia, Calabria, Campania, Tuscany and Liguria), Greece, Crete and Turkey. The prime contractor was the Federal Electric Corp. On behalf of the European-African-Middle Eastern Communications Area (EAME) of the Air Forces Communications Service (AFCS).
