He and his back-seater, Capt John C. Hardy, had finished a photo-recon run over the Ho Chi Minh trail and had left the coast of North Vietnam when all contact was lost with them and their RF-4C. Capt Hardy's body was found 8 days later in the Gulf of Tonkin. No remains of Capt Rexroad were ever found. He is memorialized in Honolulu and at Evergreen Cemetery, Okeechobee, FL.
