Air Force staff sergeant from California is killed in Afghanistan
By Tony Perry
April 28, 2013, 4:27 p.m.
An Air Force staff sergeant from a base in Northern California has been killed in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Sunday.
Richard A. Dickson, 24, of Rancho Cordova, east of Sacramento, was among four Air Force personnel killed Saturday near Kandahar in the crash of an MC-12 surveillance aircraft. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but initial reporting indicates no enemy activity in the area, the Air Force said.
Dickson was assigned to the 306th Intelligence Squadron at Beale Air Force Base. He joined the Air Force in 2005. He had flown more than 120 combat missions and was the recipient of six air medals.
