Lt Taliaferro entered the Air Force on 26 September 1969.

In the Vietnam War, he was the pilot of an A-1J (tail number 52-142053).  This aircraft was lost 20 miles north  of Nam Ngum Reservoir, Vientiane Province, Laos when it was shot down by ground fire.
