I knew Dick Etchberger , first meeting him in 1962, while assigned to the 1st Combat Evaluation Group. He was at the Bismarck, ND site; I was at the site in Winslow, Az. I was in the first class held on the TSQ-81 radar in New York; Dick was in the 2nd class.
In 1967, I was assigned to Det 15, 1st CEG, in Vietnam as maintenance inspection and assurance for the ground-directed radars in Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos. I knew, and had worked in the field with many of the personnel assigned to LS85 (as the Laos site was known.)
Dick was one of the best NCOs I have the privilege of knowing. His concern for the mission and his men was outstanding. He was truly worthy of the best words we could say about a person - "He was good people."
