Death Notice:
Mr. Robert A. Forton, age 56, passed away Saturday morning, September 11, 2010 in Muskegon. Bubba was born June 21, 1954 to Earl and Donna (VanBrocklin) Forton at Ft. Clayton in the Panama Canel Zone, and lived in different areas of the United States before moving to the Muskegon area in 1978. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran during Vietnam, worked at Smitty’s Beverage and several other local businesses. He was a member of Lake Harbor United Methodist Church. On October 19, 1990 Bubba married Marilyn McDowell, and she survives him along with 1 son, Lucas (Kasey) Forton of Kalamazoo; 3 step-children, Scott (Sandy) McDowell of Rockford, Mark (Mandy) McDowell of Belmont, Rona (Brian) Dethloff of Norton Shores; 6 grandchildren, Colin and Sydney McDowell, Erin and Ryan McDowell, Brennan and Carter Dethloff; his father and mother, Earl and Donna Forton of Norton Shores; 2 brothers, Randy (Mary) Forton of Norton Shores, Tim (Michelle) Forton of Norton Shores; nieces and nephews, Shannon (Duane) McManus, Troy Forton (Tara Stuck), Brittany, Brandy, and Bryann Forton; great niece and nephew, Allison and Connor McManus. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Zora Forton, Harley and Nora Van Brocklin; sister, Sandra Forton; and niece Candace Forton. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church, with Revs. Mark R.Erbes and Avery Burrell officiating. Burial will take place at Norton Cemetery. VISITATION at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday, and 1 hour prior to the service at church.
