"Captain Burrell was the navigator of a B-26C Invader with the 13th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Wing. On June 5, 1952, while on a night intruder mission, his aircraft departed Kunsan Air Force Base (K-8), Korea. About midnight an emergency radio call announced his plane was on fire and the crew was bailing out about 15 miles south of Simni-Do Island, North Korea. No trace of the plane nor crew has been found. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. Jackson Alexander Burrell was born in Sharptop, Cherokee County, Georgia, the son of Harvey and Mattie Lou Stancil. He was a Freshman at the Georgia Institute of Technology (later Georgia Tech) in 1953, but by September of 1944 he was in Pre-Flight Training at Maxwell Field, Alabama. In January of 1945 he was in Advanced Navigator Training. It would appear he spent World War II in the United States and after the war remained in the reserve. He went back to the Georgia Institute of Technology and received a BS Degree in Textile Engineering. In 1951 he attended the Air Force Navigation School, Central Instructors School at Ellington AFB, Texas, then Combat Crew Training at Langley AFB, Virginia. Source: Submission by T.E.
