Tech Sergeant Herman Reuss was Killed in Action on December 7, 1941, during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to the 11th Bombardment Group, Hickam Field.
He was re-interred in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee, Michigan.

1930 Federal Census Stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
1940 Census Stationed at Ewa with the 11th Bomb Group with the rank of SSgt..
He had served with the 31st Bombardment Squadron, 5th Bomb Group on Oahu (Interment records).
Comments/Citation:
Herman C. Reuss was born April 29, 1908 in Michigan to Marie (Monk) and Alred Reuss. Alfred and Marie were both born in Denmark. Alfred was employed in a lumber mill in the 1910 U. S. Census.
In November 1927, Reuss enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces. Service Number 6795518.
Reuss married Lyllis Olen on January 8, 1941.
TSGT Reuss served with Headquarters Squadron, 11th Bombardment Group. He was stationed at Hickam Field on the Hawaiian island of Oahu .
On December 7, 1941, The Empire of Japan attacked Hickam Field. The National Historic Landmarks Program states the following about Hickam Field, “Established in 1935, this was Hawaii's largest and most important army airfield when World War II broke out, and in 1941 the only field in Hawaii large enough for B-17 bomber landings. In the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japanese bombing here and at other Oahu fields destroyed planes and gave Japanese forces the air superiority to proceed to attack Pearl Harbor warships.” 245 of the 350 airmen in the 11th Bombardment Group were casualties of the attack. 343 of the 433 U. S. aircraft located in Hawaii that day were damaged or destroyed.
Herman C. Reuss was killed in the attack. He is interred in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, Michigan.
