Leslie "Doc" Wayne Abbott passed away on June 9, 2010, of natural causes at his home in Hines, Ore. Doc was born on June 15, 1929, in Roswell, Idaho, to Guernsey H. and Rita Fletcher Abbott. He was raised on a farm in Roswell and graduated from Parma High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Idaho in engineering and completed graduate work at the University of Washington in meteorology. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1969, and was stationed in Germany, Vietnam, Texas, Florida, California, Washington and Arizona. As a Captain, he piloted a variety of aircraft, flew to locations in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, and served in the Vietnam War. After retiring as a civilian meteorologist in Arizona, he returned to Parma and farming. Doc is survived by his wife, Jane Search Abbott of Hines, Ore.; his children Debbie, Christeen, Matthew, and Christopher Abbott; two brothers Ray and Orville Abbott; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marvin, Norman, and Walter Abbott, and sisters Ardith Fretwell and Irma Scott. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in Hines, Ore. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at Roswell Cemetery in Parma, Idaho at 1 p.m.
