Last Known Activity
His aircraft collided with another B-24 over the North Sea and went into a flat spin and crashed into the sea. Only one crewmember survived. Lt. Beirne's remains were not recovered and he is memorialized at Cambridge and also at Holy Cross Cemetery, Richmond, VA.
