Last Known Activity
His aircraft was hit by "friendly fire" from nervous US Navy gunners and exploded while nearing Sicily to drop paratroopers.
His remains were not recovered. He is memorialized in Nettuno, Italy and at Marietta City Cemetery, Marietta, GA; and Dobbins AFB, now ARB, Marietta, GA is also named for him.
