 Additional Information
Last Known Activity
He was killed in the crash of B-17E 41-2667 "Texas Tornado" just after taking off from Whenuapsi Airfield, Auckland, New Zealand. Most of the crew were killed by the crash itself and 1 or 2 of them were killed by the exploding bombs. The aircraft and crew had been there for several days supposedly for a rest period and to make preparations for other US forces to come there. Their destination at take-off was given as Laverton Airfield near Melbourne, Australia. These "facts" could possibly have been a cover for a secret combat mission as the aircraft was carrying live bombs.
