Last Known Activity
Major Cooper had prior service as an enlisted man in the U.S. Navy 1945-1953, in both active and reserve duty capacities.

Major Cooper entered the Air Force in 1954 and completed pilot training by 1956. Earlier in his career, Major Cooper served at RAF Upper Heyford, and with 509th Bomber Wing out of Pease AFB, flying the Boeing B-47 Stratojet.

Major Cooper also flew the B-47 out of Lockbourne Air Force Base, Columbus, Ohio, in the early 1960's.

He was killed while piloting a B-57B on a reconaissance bombing sortie. He flew out of Danang/Phan Rang ABs. He was lost over Tay Ninh Province. Note: A conflicting location of his last mission being over Kontum is in the reference book "Vietnam Air Losses 1961-1973" , but it was probably Tay Ninh. Researching further.

21 January 1967:
B-57B (S/N 52-1557)
13th TBS, 405 FW attached to 35th TFW, 7th Air Force. Da Nang / Phan Rang.
MAJ George Grady Cooper (Pilot). MAJ George Low (Navigator).
KIA while attacking a bridge on an enemy supply route. Majors Cooper and Low were on their fifth pass dropping ordinance on target when their aircraft was hit by ground fire in the port wing. Neither of the crew was observed to eject.
