Last Known Activity

Capt. Kenneth Roy Crist was a 1966 graduate of the US Air Force Academy, where he was the squadron executive Officer.  Capt. Crist then began (UPT) Undergraduate Pilot training class 68A at Vance AFB in Enid, Oklahoma where he mastered the controls of the T-37 and T-38 Talon Supersonic  Jet Trainer.  He then entered F-4 Transition training and was assigned to the 390 TFS out of DaNang AB, South Vietnam.

Capt. Crist became a good stick man and flew 114 successful combat missions earning 9 Air Medals.

On the morning of 28 November 1968, Capt. Crist successfully conducted his 115th air mission over North Vietnam and returned to Da Nang where upon attempting to land the F-4D  (tail number 66-7646) , it suddenly rolled to the right and crashed. Capt. Crist attempted to eject fron the crippled aircraft but was injured and badly burned in the process. He was airlifted to Yokohama Japan for treatment of his burns but succumbed  to those injuries on 17 December 1968.
