Last Known Activity Two UH-1s of the 20th SOS were on a combat mission. During the flight, Heil's aircraft tried to avoid a collision with a VNAF CH-34 but then hit trees while turning, crashed, and caught fire. The fire destroyed the aircraft and killed Captain Heil and MSgt Cooper. Captain Carrington and SSgt Galvan were injured in the crash. A third helicopter recovered the two injured men and evacuated them to Duc Lap for treatment. They were later taken to Cam Ranh Bay and both survived their injuries.
