Last Known Activity
He joined the USAF Aviation Cadet Program Mar 22, 1954, and was commissioned a 2nd Lt and awarded his pilot wings at Williams AFB, AZ Jan 19, 1956. In SEA he served with the 41st TRS, 355th TFW, first at Da Nang AB, RVN,  Dec-Jun 1965, then at Takhli RTAFB, Thailand.
On Jul 20, 1966, his EB-66C (#54-0464) flew from Takhli on an electronic countermeasure mission over North Vietnam. The crew that day were:

Near Tuyen Quang, Quang Bac Thai Province, North Vietnam his aircraft was hit by hostile fire then crashed and disintegrated. Col Means was on his 89th mission when he was shot down. He was captured and spent 2,400 days as a POW. He died in 1986 due to an illness resulting from that imprisonment.
