Best Moment When I immediately volunteered for Vietnam and then volunteered for the advance party for the ARC Light Deployment to Anderson AFB, Guam to get away from this 8th Air Force base of Westover AFB. Another time when an MD-3 generator was damaged and it seemed only I could repair this unit in 3 days whereas the 36 man structural shop was unable to repair it.
Worst Moment When I first arrived to Westover AFB my Commander informed me SAC didn't like "Retreads," that is former marines. He went on to say that if I upset these SAC personnel there is not a place in the world I could go that SAC couldn't fine me and get retribution. He said, "I think you could make a career in the Air Force and you may reach the rank of Master Sergeant (MSgt.)" I wondered, "Is this General Curtis LeMay's SAC?"

Once on base I was assigned to the 99 Field Maintenance Squadron (FMS), SAC
Other Memories I loved the wonderful island of Guam and the Air Force's beach. There were no snakes anywhere and the bird life was not only tropical but heavenly. After 201 days in Guam I realized my unit had rotated back to Westover some time ago. I only worked 12 hours a day on the flight line and had no concept of time. Why did these SAC personnel leave me behind in Guam? Why had I been listed as AWOL while I was in Guam? Why was my auto stolen from storage and I was given a ticket and missed the court date again while I was in Guam? Why was I being "railroaded" out of the Air Force after I had just joined? This was the Strategic Air Command (SAC)?
