Memories For This Unit

Best Friends

Best Moment
When my neighbor behind 1826-1 Cedar Drive on base wanted to babysit my 18 month old son, John III. Afterwards he told his wife he didn't know babies could be so good and wonderful. Having gone years never wanting children he now wanted a baby too. His wife was elated and told Kay how wonderful it was to have such a happy baby.
"Why are some babies so happy," she asked Kay.
Kay responded with what the doctor had told her, "Babies are happy because from conception they KNOW THEY ARE LOVED!"

Worst Moment
The Air Force required 40 hours of overtime for every additional slot to increase manpower. So for 4 new slots to be added required a lot of long overtime hours for everyone in the shop. Morale suffered greatly during this period of time. Just prior of me departing the 2nd FIS, 4 additional slots were added to our manning. All my overtime hours I worked benefited someone because I was gone now!

Other Memories
I took one of my best childhood friends son, Warren on a canoe trip from Van Etten Lake, Down Van Etten Creek to the Au Sable River on to Lake Huron. The waves were almost overwhelming paddling in a canoe on Lake Huron. So we paddled back upstream to Van Etten Lake. We had to portage the dam going down stream and again going upstream. It took all day and was a wonderful memory. Warren still talks about that trip 30 years later.
