Aug 21st , 1944 - 10th Combat Mission: Air drones in Hungary (Hours: 5:10) Per Lt. Anderson's Note Book and Pilot Flight Log: Fighters sweep over enemy air field. After Lt. Anderson completed his 10th Combat Mission (Ten Sorties) he was presented with the ?Air Medal?. This medal is ?Not? etched with his name. This photo is attached to and wrapped with a ?Onion Skin? paper. Verbage described in Citation. AIR MEDAL Citation: Official AAF Photo - 15th AAF IN ITALY - Second Lieutenant Sheldon K. Anderson, 22, son of Mr. Orville E. Anderson, Route No. 1, Sheridan Road, Kenosha, Wisc., a P-51 Mustang fighter pilot, is presented the Air Medal by Lt. Colonel Ernest H. Beverly, Laurinburg, N.C. Lt. Anderson was awarded the medal for his meritorious achievement in participating in sustained aerial operations against the enemy.
