THE AIR FORCE MEMORIAL FOUNDATION WAS INCORPORATED IN
January 1992 to pursue the development of a Memorial that would honor the men and women of the United States Air Force and its heritage organizations. After almost 15 years of project development the Memorial was dedicated and accepted on behalf of the American people by President George W. Bush on October 14, 2006.

Following are detailed directions to the Memorial from Maryland, downtown D.C. and Virginia:

From Maryland:

Take MD-295 heading South. Merge onto US-50 W / New York Ave NE toward Washington (crossing into the District of Columbia). Then take I-395 S toward the tunnel crossing into Virginia. After 4.1 miles, merge onto Washington Blvd / VA-27 W via Exit 8A toward Ridge Rd. Take the Columbia Pike/VA-244 Ramp toward the Navy Annex. Turn slight right onto VA-244 / Columbia Pike. The Memorial will be visible on Columbia Pike on your left at One Air Force Memorial Drive, Arlington, VA, 22211.  Parking for the Memorial on your right directly across Columbia Pike from the entrance to the Memorial.

From Downtown D.C.:

Take I-395 South toward Virginia. Merge onto I-395 S toward Richmond and stay on it for 2 miles. Next, take the Washington Blvd / VA-27 W Exit (8A) toward Ridge Rd. Take the Columbia Pike/VA-244 Ramp toward the Navy Annex. Turn slight right onto VA-244 / Columbia Pike. The Memorial will be visible on Columbia Pike on your left at One Air Force Memorial Drive, Arlington, VA, 22211.  Parking for the Memorial on your right directly across Columbia Pike from the entrance to the Memorial.

From Virginia:

Take I-495 N. Merge onto I-395 N via Exit 170A-B toward Washington / I-495 / Tysons Corner. Merge onto Washington Blvd / VA-27 W via Exit 8A toward VA-244 / Columbia Pike. Turn slight right onto VA-244 / Columbia Pike. The Memorial will be visible on Columbia Pike on your left at One Air Force Memorial Drive, Arlington, VA, 22211.

Public Transportation

Metrorail -
Pentagon City station (.5 mile walk) – Exit on West side of Hayes Street. Walk North on Hayes to Army Navy Drive. Take a left on Army Navy Drive. Take Army Navy Drive to Joyce Street. Take a right on Joyce Street*. Take Joyce Street to Columbia Pike. Take a left on Columbia Pike. The Memorial is in the 1300 block of Columbia Pike.
Pentagon Station (.55 mile walk) – Exit the station. Walk West through the South Parking lot (Rotary Road). Continue onto Columbia Pike*. The Memorial is in the 1300 block of Columbia Pike.
*Please note that it is an uphill walk once you reach Joyce Street or Columbia Pike.
Metrobus -
Navy Annex stop -There are several buses that stop at the Navy Annex which is approximately one block from the Memorial. To find what bus works best for you please visit the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s website at www.wmata.com

Operating Hours

The Memorial is open every day of the year. Hours are 8 a.m. – 11 p.m. April 1 – September 30 and 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. October 1 – March 31.
