Major Henry W. Armstrong distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Tactical Fighter Pilot Near Fire Base Six, in the Republic of Vietnam on 11 April 1971. On that date, Major Armstrong was scrambled from the alert pad at Phan Rang Air Base to suppress hostile mortar and automatic weapons fire that was preventing an emergency resupply of the base. Despite inclement weather, hazardous terrain and abundant ground fire, Major Armstrong silenced the hostile weapons and enabled supply helicopters to land without incident. Major Henry W Armstrong distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Tactical Fighter pilot at a classified location in Southeast Asia on 27 December 1970. Shortly before sunset on that date, Major Armstrong was launched from Phan Rang Air Base to aid friendly forces surrounded by a numerically superior hostile force. Despite adverse weather, intense antiaircraft fire, and minimal target illumination, Major Armstrong silenced the ground fire, killed twenty-seven and wounded thirty members of the hostile force and was instrumental in saving the beleagured friendly force from total destruction. The professional comptetence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Armstrong reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Major Henry W Armstrong distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Tactical Fighter Pilot near Nha Trang, Rebublic of Vietnam on 26 Sep 1970. On that date, Major Armstrong scrambled from the alert facility at Phan Rang Air Base to assist beleaguered friendly forces. Did not complete the length of service required in item (1) or (2) above, but who, during wartime, were: a. Wounded by the enemy (in a military action); b. Captured by the enemy during action or in the line of duty, but later rescued or released; or c. Killed in action or in the line of duty; or 4.
