This award is presented for heroism, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service by any member of the Florida National Guard. Award may be made to individuals who are not members of the Florida National Guard who distinguish themselves by an act of heroism, extraordinary achievement, or meritorious service which has benefited the Florida National Guard.
The original criteria did not include the word heroism. The initial award criteria stated that the Florida Commendation Ribbon would be awarded to that officer, warrant officer or enlisted man who rendered outstanding service in his military capacity by superior performance of duty and extra effort in helping to build the unit to a high state of efficiency and keeping it there over an extended period of time, and for individual effort within the community which creates a highly favorable community attitude toward the National Guard." The criteria were changed when the medal was introduced in 1973. MoreHide

I think there is an error in the AFSC Group as I had nothing to do with Avionics. I worked in Command and Control as a 27350A, Manual Aircraft Control and Warning Radar Opetator..My AFSC in Basic was 273010, after completion of my Tech School at Keesler it was 27330A and after I completed and passed my 5 Level test on Kume Jima in June of 1963 it was 27350A. My duty assignments were in the Control Section working Flight Follow, Movements and I.D. and filling in in the Surveilance Section as a scope operator, plotter and forward/latteral teller. I worked in PACAF and ADC during my 4 years active duty.
