Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Gail Halvorsen, the famed "Candy Bomber" of the Berlin Airlift fields questions from reporters at the closing of Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany. The colonel, who maintained a relationship with the airlift base after the Airlift, attended the base's closing ceremony Oct. 10, 2005. The U.S. Air Force turned the base over to the Frankfurt Airport Authority in December 2005, 60 years after operations started there.
