When I enlisted, the recruiter told me that my scores qualified me for Air Traffic Control school. What he didn't tell me was that my vision would disqualify me. I ended up at Sheppard to attend computer operator school. One day an NCO came to the barracks and announced that the school was backlogged and the wait to start classes would be three months. He offered everyone a chance to change to aircraft maintenance courses. I volunteered and was sent to the jet aircraft maintenance (1-2 engines) course. Did I mention that mechanics was my lowest score on the qualification test? It worried me until I learned the scores for others in my tech school class.
