Worst Moment Heavy rains caused widespread flooding in Abilene. Local police cars could not get around so several of us cops loaded into our M-706 rubber duck and 2 1/2 ton trucks to rescue some residents and to carry local police on some alarm calls. I jumped out of the amphib into the water to help board a victim. It was cold and swift dodging bits of debris and the occasional snake.
Other Memories This was my first assignment where I got to drive the new blue and white police cars that came into service in 1978. Gone were the days of motor pool hand me downs.
Was selected as the unit LE Trainer and discovered that I had a talent for teaching and that it was a lot of fun. So, I applied for special duty as instructor at SP Academy and was selected.
