Memories For This Unit
Best Friends BGen (now Lt Gen [Ret]) Ron Marcotte, Lt Col George Plakorus, Lt Col Mike Hanks, Col (now Gen) Will Fraser, Col (now MGen [Ret]) Mike McMahon, Col (now BGen [Ret]) Hank Taylor, Maj [Ret] Ace Abbott.
Best Moment Serving as Commander of the "Best Security Police Group in the United States Air Force" & "Best Security Police Group in Air Combat Command" for 1993.
Worst Moment Serving as Commander, 509th Security Police Group (ACC) at the unit's 26 Jul '94 deactivation ceremony. A great ceremony, but a very sad occasion. At the time, the 509 SPG was the last SP Group remaining in the US Air Force.
Chain of Command The Whiteman AFB Security Police Group was the 351 SPG (ACC) intil deactivation of the parent 351 Missile Wing. Renamed 509 SPG (ACC), it was downsized to a stand-alone 509 Security Police Squadron in Jun '94 upon 509 SPG deactivation.
Other Memories Providing security and related services for the Dec '93 bed down of the first operational B2 Spirit stealth bomber. Deactivation and nuke convoys for the 150-missile 10,000-square mile 351 MW (ACC) missile field. The Whiteman 351/509 SPG had over 1,100 members, and over 100 vehicles in its fleet.
