Col. Helmich was lost aboard his A-1H (#52-139821) during combat action near Ban Senphan during an SAR mission.

This Veteran has an (IMO) In Memory Of Headstone in Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial, Hawaii as well as the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery Boscawen, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.
