Lt. Col. Stephen Welsh enlisted in the Army Air Corps on 13 January 1942 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He had attended Clemson prior to enlistment.
Lt. Col. Welsh began a tour of duty at Tan Son Nhut AB with an intelligence unit, the Det. 6, 6499th Special Activities Group. Headquarters were at Hickham AFB, Hawaii.
He was Interred in National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii, in Plot: G 797-A, on 27 March 1968.
