Margaret Ann (Langdon) Wood was born on February 21, 1919, in Hubbardston, MI. After high school, she attended the University of Michigan where she graduated with a degree from the nursing program. She enlisted in the US Army Air Force in 1943, and completed basic training. She was assigned to the 349th Flight Nurse Training Squadron at Bowman Field, KY.
Following her training there, she was assigned to the 817th Medical Air Evacuation Squadron in England. For the next year and one-half, she flew air evacuation missions to France, Germany, and the Azores. She also made several trans-Atlantic flights, bringing severly wounded soldiers and airmen back to hospitals in the U.S. She was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
She was chosen by the US government to travel to Switzerland on a goodwill tour shortly before the war was over in 1945. After the war, she returned to the University of Michigan and worked there as a nurse, In 1947, she married James E. Wood and moved to Detroit. The couple made thier home there until 1964 when they moved again, this time to Western Springs. James died in 1992, and Margaret Ann moved to Batavia in 1998.
Margaret continued her nursing work and volunteer efforts in Holmstad.
James and Margaret had 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
