Memories For This Unit
Best Friends SSgt Junkins
Best Moment The welcome I got from the shop chief surprised me! He was warm and friendly and took me to supply to get my issue items. He also took me to the hospital after my worst moment (see the worst moment).
Worst Moment The day we had a "redball" on a KC-135! I dispatched to the aircraft to check a Doppler problem. The system would not "time in", so I opened the access panel behind the nose wheel to check the transmitter. I "tweeked" the unit and it timed in, so I went to the nose wheel and closed up the access panel. By this time, the engines were running and I assumed (bad assumption) the crew hatch would be closed. WRONG!! I ducked out from under the aircraft, being careful to stay close to avoid the engine intakes and, at a run, hit the crew hatch dead on with my face!! The impact knocked me out, broke my nose and glasses. It even jerked the handle out of the boom operator's hand. My boss, Ssgt Junkins, carried me to the van and we went to the hospital to get me looked at!
I learned to look first from that incident!!
