I am now fully retired. I volunteer my time and energy in furthering aims and goals of military organizations, specifically the Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) as President of the local Chapter 478 and The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA) as 1st Vice President of the local Chapter 103.
I have been active in AFSA since 1987 when I was elected Trustee of Chapter 985 at Tinker AFB, OK and arranged/set up the Division 9 Convention. The following year I was elected President of the Chapter and in 1989 I was elected Trustee for AFSA Division 9 while still serving as President of the Chapter. After retirement from the Air Force I moved to Chattanooga, TN and after completing my BS Degree in 1994 was elected President of Chapter 478. In 1999 I was elected Vice President of AFSA Division 4 and in 2000 was elected President of Division 4 and reelected in 2002 and in 2010.
I am a Charter member of TREA Chapter 103 (which formed in 2001) and have served as Chapter President, Vice President and Director.
Other Comments:
After retiring from the Air Force on 09/01/1990, I sought employment to supplement my retirement income but was over qualified in experience without the level of education required for the positions. Therefore I went back to college (Chattanooga State Technical Community College and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga) and in May 1994 earned the required credits for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.
In August 1994, I went to work for the Tennessee Department of Revenue as a Tax Auditor. I advanced from entry level, Auditor Associate, to fully qualified, Tax Auditor 4. I audited businesses in the Southeast Region of the state to ensure they were properly collecting and remitting Sales and Use Tax, Franchise and Excise Tax, Business Tax and other taxes governed by the department. I retired from the state at the end of December 2010.
