 Additional Information
Last Known Activity:

He had left Langley Field, VA on Dec 12 to fly to Miami, FL. He had spent the night at Fort Bragg, NC and was flying south when he was killed when his P-12 crashed into a swamp near Dale, SC.
The former Fairbanks Air Base was renamed Ladd Army Airfield in his honor on Dec 1, 1939. It was Ladd AFB from 1947 to early 1961. Ladd Elementary School in Fairbanks and Ladd Street, Lackland AFB, TX (now Joint Base San Antonio) are also named for him.
Some sources say he was born in 1888. It is possible he lied about his age when he first joined up and then it was later corrected.
