Maj. Geiger was one of the first 25 rated USAS Military Aviators, was an original member of the Caterpillar Club, was the commander of early aviation of the US Army Signal Corps in Hawaii, and Geiger Field in Spokane, WA was named after him.  
He was a 1908 graduate of the US Military Academy. He served in the Aeronautical Division and the Aviation of the US Army Signal Corps, the US Army Air Service, and finally the US Army Air Corps. He died on May 17, 1927 in the accidental crash of an Airco DH.4 at Olmsted Field, PA. He jumped out just as it hit the ground but he was unable to escape the flames. He is buried near William Dodd Geiger, Major, United States Army Air Forces.
