Personal Memories

Memories
Operation Able Mable, Don Muang AB, Bangkok, Thailand (later moved back to Tan Son Nhut AB in 1963). Operations were conducted jointly by the 15th TRS from Kadena AB and the 45th TRS stationed at Misawa AB Japan. My participation was with the 15th TRS, during June - Sept. 1962 and May - July and October 1963. This operation initially consisted of four aircraft and expanded the recon and intelligence gathering in Laos, southern N. Vietnam and all of S. Vietnam. Pre-strike photography also becomes a major part of the mission. The operation eventually grew to six aircraft and continued until early 1965 when it was replaced by Operation Rolling Thunder and relocated to Udorn RTAFB Thailand. Aircrews were awarded the Air Medal for each 25 combat missions flown. During this operation I received two Air Medals.
