Miguel R. Nolla [pronounced Noy-ah] Arana Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, November 20, 1935. Son of Miguel D. Nolla Lacomba and Carmen Nery Arana Velazquez, both from Puerto Rico.
After beginning studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Miguel went on to complete his Bachelor’s degree in General Studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He continued his education and earned Master’s degrees in both Personnel Management and Business Administration from Webster University at St. Louis Missouri.
Miguel retired after 23 years of dedicated service in the
United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. A Vietnam Veteran, he earned numerous commendations and awards including the prestigious
Bronze Star Medal.
After retirement, he worked for 13 years with Boeing Military as a logistics analyst in Wichita, KS. A devout Catholic and Cursillista, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and served for many years in various leadership roles within Catholic Hispanic Ministry for the Dioceses of Birmingham, AL; Washington D.C.; San Antonio, TX and Wichita, KS.
Miguel is survived by his wife of 56 years Irma Socorro Corretjer-Nolla, their 6 children and spouses: Irma and Richard Gallagher of Bartlett, TN; Dyhalma and Tom Trudell of Leonardtown, MD; Myrna and Richard Horner of Fredericksburg, VA; Deacon Miguel and Lynn Nolla of Niceville, FL; Carlos and Lisa Nolla of Wichita, KS; Cesar and Susan Nolla of Wichita, KS; 25 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren with 2 additional on the way. He is also survived by his sister Nery Ballard; brother Jaime O. Nolla and father-in-law Cesar Corretjer all from Puerto Rico.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday July 13 and 6-8 p.m. with a rosary Thursday July 14 all at Memphis Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Germantown Road. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday July 15 at St. Ann Catholic Church Bartlett followed by burial services at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, Memphis, TN.
