Thomas F. Abernethy, 76, of St. Thomas, a retired Sergeant with the United States Capitol Police, died April 7, peacefully in his home with family by his side.

Mr. Abernethy was born May 18, 1934 in Liverpool, England. He served in the British Merchant Navy. A Vietnam Veteran serving as a member of the United States Air Force. He joined the United States Capitol Police, Washington DC. He also joined the United States Marshal Service, Washington DC.

Mr. Abernethy and his wife retired and settled in Chambersburg, PA. He Was a Member of VFW Post 9619, American Legion Post 259, and Disabled American Veterans Organization.

Mr. Abernethy is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Elizabeth Abernethy; Sisters Catherine Chatam and Susan Price; Brothers Peter and Charles.

Mr. Abernethy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Abernethy; Three children Thomas Abernethy, Jr., Marina Abernethy, and Charles Abernethy, Daughter-in-law Brenda Abernethy; and five grandchildren Thomas Abernethy III, Kyle Abernethy, Charles Abernethy, Jr., Taylor Abernethy, and Kayla Abernethy.

Internment services will be performed by Father James R, O'Brien at Parklawns Memorial Gardens., Chambersburg PA. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, Inc. of Franklin County PA. or American Lung Cancer Association.
