Question: I am confused as to why basic Training is listed as having been in 1955, unless he had broken Air Force service and was required to go through it again ... there is a gap in assignment listings 0n the AF Form7 between 1953 & 1955.
Question: I am uncertain about these acronyms shown on the Assignment Listings above:
AACS - ? Probably Army Airways Communication System? [answer to above provided by MSgt Robert Abblett, USAF (Ret'd) :"AACS stands for airways and air communications squadron. They were a part of MATS and a tenent organization on the air bases. I knew Joe at Duluth as I was an electronics repairman 1959 through 1964. The 1277-2 Det home squadron was at KI Sawyer AFB Michigan." posted in a tribute on 9 Nov 2012] AFCS - ? [from Wikipedia, AFCS is Air Force Communications Service, the redesignation of AACS, Air and Airways Communication Squadron (formerly the Army Air Communication Service). It later became AFCC, Air Force Communications Command.] AFRCTC - ? ECI - ? Probably Extension Course Institute? GCA - ? MATS - ? RAPCON - ?
Question: Is it accepted practice on AFTWS to display both the unit a person was assigned to and the base (under a separate assignment)?
Question: Is there an info source that will help me identify the locations (bases) of some of his schools, such as Basic Training and Acft Landing Control Operator?
Question: Under the school, Acft Landing Control Operator, a five digit number is listed, but it does not seem to be affiliated with his MOS, does anyone know what this number is identifying, is it perhaps a class or course number?
Question: Is it normal for an Airman to change occupation from something like 27250 to 27250B and then back? What would be the reason for that: personal choice, assignment requirement, other?
