TSgt. Zane Carter was one of three airmen who were killed friendly fire incident on 3 August. As their aircraft, a C-7B (# 62-4161), approached the Duc Pho Special Forces camp, about 20 miles south of Quang Ngai, it flew into the line of fire of a US Army 155mm howitzer and the shell blew off its entire rear fuselage and tail section.
