Then 1st Lt. Chorlins was taking part in a night strike on truck traffic in the Mu Gia Pass when it was shot down by 37mm AAA. The Spad caught fire and crashed before the pilot had a chance to escape.
He was listed as MIA. He was promoted to Captain, posthumously.
A memorial was placed for him at the Air Force Academy.
