Captain Robertson and his crew were killed in South Vietnam on 9 January 1967 on a flare and gun support mission, an AC-47 (# 43-49124). A small special forces camp was under attack and called for air support. They came to the rescue flying low (below the 2000 ft. cloud deck) and firing on the enemy. They continued these passes until the plane was hit by hostile ground fire, caught on fire, and crashed.
