Major Donald McHugo served with the 8th Bomb Squadron, 35th Tactical Fighter Wing, 7th AIr Force, Danang AB, RVN. His tour began on 30 August 1967.

He was navigator of a B-57 bomber which crashed while attempting to land at Da Nang. Officials said McHugo ejected from the plane on its final approach, but his parachute failed to open. The plane reportedly had sustained battle damage before attempting the landing.

He left a wife in Portland, Oregon.
