Last Known Activity
A pilot with the 45th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, Lieutenant Ruiz was killed in his F-51D Mustang (# 44-73842) on July 2, 1951, some 15 miles west of Chorwon, North Korea.  While on a reconnaissance mission, his wingman observed his Mustang catch fire and crash and no parachute was seen.

For his leadership and valor, Lieutenant Ruiz was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, and Air Medal.
