MSgt. Jajtner served with  310th Special Operations Squadron, 315th Special Operations Wing, 7th Air Force.

He was aboard a C-123K Provider (#55-4534) that was hit by ground fire near Tanh Linh while on a  "candlestick" (flare) mission.  The aircraft crashed about 6 miles from Bien Hoa Air Base, Bien Hoa Province, South Vietnam.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat "V" (Posthumously) to Master Sergeant Raymond Charles Jajtner, United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight while serving with the 14th Combat Support Group, 315th Air Commando Wing, SEVENTH Air Force, in Southeast Asia on 18 May 1966.
