Last Known Activity
Major Stearns had enlisted  in the U.S. Army 5 October 1945 at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania.

Following enlistment, he attended Park College of Engineering and Technology (now within Saint Louis University system), graduating with his B.S. Air Transportation in 1950.  He then enlisted in the Air Forceon 23 February 1950.

He and his crew were lost during a "Ranch Hand" defoliation operation southwest of Quang Ngai. He was the pilot of UC-1123B (#54-0630) which was brought down by small arms fire.
