 Additional Information
Last Known Activity:

He is known as the first enlisted pilot.  In 1912 while he was a corporal and an airplane mechanic he was trained and qualified as a pilot.  At first the Army brass objected to it but then relented and he was promoted to sergeant.  In 1917 he was commissioned and retired as a colonel in 1942.
