DEROS'ed back to the ZI on the Super Connie from Kadena AB to Travis AFB in April of 1963. We were caught in a thunder storm down draft over Diamond Head coming in for a landing at Hickum AFB and came within 100 ft. of crashing in the Punch Bowl; other than that a smooth flight, very nice airliner.
It would have been ironic to have died by crashing in the middle of the grave yard of the Pacific while trying to "rotate back to the world". (GI Humor)
