USMA Class of 1949, First Lieutenant Jenkins was a pilot of a F-51 Mustang fighter with the 3596th Pilot

Training Squadron, 3595th Pilot Training Wing at Nellis Air Force Base. On July 7, 1950, he was flying solo

acrobatics near Crystal, Nevada when his aircraft stalled and crashed into the ground.
