Enlisted with my high school buddy Tom Chapman. He went off to EOD school and I headed off to Keesler AFB, MS. to sun and fun on the Gulf coast for two years.
Best Moment Best moment of course was getting through the 6 weeks without killing myself. Sewing on that mosquito wing and showing it off to the new recruits before leaving was a plus.
Worst Moment Left for Lackland AFB ten days after graduating from high school. First time on an airplane. Deplaneing at San Antonio AP the heat hit hit me in the face. Never felt heat like that before. I knew then that this was not going to be easy. 6 weeks later I barely graduated (couldn't march worth a hoot) and headed off for my first assignment. I just wasn't made out to be a physical specimen.
Instructors You know I can't even remember the good Sergeants name. SSgt very sharp and lucky for me he saw I was really trying so he didn't set me back and I graduated with my flight.
Other Memories Wooden dorms. No air conditioning. And hot as hell.
