Reflections on TSgt Archambeau's
US Air Force Service
TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, WHAT INFLUENCED HIS/HER DECISION TO JOIN THE AIR FORCE?
College was coming to an end and I knew the Draft would be next, and being that my name starts with an "A" it would not be long in coming, therefore it was enlisted and choose my service or have the government do it for me, being that my father was with the 8th Army Air Force (AAF) in England (P-38 Sq.) during WWII as a 1st Sgt it just seemed right to go, Air Force.
TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE DIRECTION OR PATH HE/SHE TOOK IN HIS/HER MILITARY SERVICE. WHERE DID THEY GO FOR BASIC TRAINING AND WHAT UNITS, BASES OR SQUADRONS WERE THEY ASSIGNED TO? WHAT WAS HIS/HER REASON FOR LEAVING?
My father was in Photo Recon Intel and I ended up in Combat Camera, so we ended up doing the same things, Funny how that works. His Intel training included Morse Code and Photo Interpretation while mine included answering the phone, and interpretation.
IF HE/SHE PARTICIPATED IN ANY MILITARY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING COMBAT, HUMANITARIAN AND PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS, TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, PLEASE DESCRIBE THOSE YOU FEEL WERE THE MOST SIGNIFICANT TO HIM/HER AND, IF LIFE-CHANGING, IN WHAT WAY.
Unable to discuss, however, I was able to participate in training At the Republic of Korea Marine Training at an island off the South coast of Korea.
FROM THEIR ENTIRE MILITARY SERVICE, DESCRIBE ANY PERSONAL MEMORIES, YOU MAY BE AWARE OF, WHICH IMPACTED HIM/HER THE MOST.
Working with the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, the learning about Nature can be very interesting, to say the least. Then returning to Combat Camera. Then being able to participate in training At the Republic of Korea Marine Training at an island off the South coast of Korea. The training was used to prepare ROK Marines for possible problems with the North.
OF ALL THE MEDALS, AWARDS, FORMAL PRESENTATIONS AND QUALIFICATION BADGES HE/SHE RECEIVED, WHICH WERE THE MOST MEANINGFUL TO HIM/HER AND WHY?
There were a few that I was proud of like Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, All were meaningful because I just did my job and someone else felt I did it well enough to honor me.
IF KNOWN, PLEASE LIST ANY INDIVIDUAL(S) FROM HIS/HER TIME IN THE MILITARY WHO STOOD OUT AS HAVING THE MOST POSITIVE IMPACT ON THEM AND WHY?
Too many to list, but my Father had the most input. Of the military CMsgt Vance, we were together at Basic, lost track only to be stationed together on a base.
ARE YOU AWARE OF ANY PARTICULAR INCIDENT FROM HIS/HER SERVICE, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN FUNNY AT THE TIME, BUT STILL MADE THEM LAUGH LATER ON?
While stationed in South Korea with AFKN, I went to a friend who lived a short distance from the Garrison, and rather that taking a cab back I decided to walk, There were a number of protests along the way, I stopped for a coffee and was joined by a few of the protesters, It was funny because they would not allow me to pay for my coffee's.
IF HE/SHE SURVIVED MILITARY SERVICE, WHAT PROFESSION(S) DID HE/SHE FOLLOW AFTER DISCHARGE?
Retired then joined the State Department of Corrections as an officer and did some counseling, retired from that and now working part-time for Wal-Mart as a cashier. And became ordained as a pastor.
IF KNOWN, WHAT MILITARY ASSOCIATIONS WAS HE OR SHE A MEMBER OF, IF ANY? ARE YOU AWARE OF ANY SPECIFIC BENEFITS THEY DERIVED FROM THEIR MEMBERSHIPS?
American Legion, VFW, and DAV, each had an impact, with dealing with the civilian world being a retired member. The main point for each is the ability to interact with retired and active military members from all branches.
IF HE/SHE SURVIVED MILITARY SERVICE, IN WHAT WAYS DO YOU BELIEVE HIS/HER SERVING IN THE MILITARY INFLUENCED THE WAY THEY APPROACHED THEIR PERSONAL LIFE, FAMILY LIFE AND CAREER?
I now have a "KILROY" factor about life in general.
IF THEY WERE HERE TODAY, WHAT ADVICE DO YOU THINK HE OR SHE WOULD GIVE TO THOSE WHO FOLLOWED IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS AND RECENTLY ENTERED MILITARY SERVICE?
Look both ways before crossing a battlefield!
HOW EFFECTIVE HAS TOGETHERWESERVED.COM BEEN IN HELPING YOU RECORD YOUR REMEMBERED PERSONS MILITARY SERVICE? DO YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE?
Allowed me to get in touch with some people I thought I would never see again. And as such add some New memories and remember some Old Ones. DS 9/19/17
