I earned the AFSC 90399 after completing "The Commandant of SENIOR NONCOMMISSIONED OFFICER ACADEMY and The Extension Course AIR UNIVERSITY, on 18 March 1988.

Other Comments:

On 14 Feb 1963 I joined Marine Corps and was directed to report to MCRD San Diago Boot Camp. After bootcamp I was assigned to "Sea School "at MCRD San Diego, Califoria. Directly after Sea School I was assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 for a two year tour of duty. During one of The West-Pac Cruise's The Kitty Hawk was directed to the South China Sea (Vietnam). After Sea Duty,  I  received  Orders to Twenty-Nine Palms, California for (OJT) Fire Directioin Control, for 55' Howitzer Artillary School. After FDC Arillary School The whole unit was transfered to Chu Lai, Vietnam. Discharge was accomplished at El Toro MCB, California. I'm a Member of The White Earth Chippewa Nation Reservation its located in Mohnomen, Minnesota. This fact was utilized in Vietnam because of my ability to track. I took many patrols way outside the primiter of the 55' Howlizers.

I made an attempt at Civilian Life in the late 60s, it wasn't easy as the economy was so bad I was competing for employement with others possesing Doctorite Degrees. When the opertunity arose to join the Air Force I Jumped at the chance!

I joined the United States Air Force in 1971 and Retired in 1992. I didn't attend USAF boot camp; because, I completed The Marine Boot Camp. My 1st orders asssigned me to Sheppard AFB, TX for 90330 Radiology Tech School phase1. After Graduation I was sent to Wright Patterson AFB, OH. This was a lucky assignment for me as this assingment to help me complete Phase II of The National American Registy Of Radiologic Technologists in 1974. My 2nd tour of duty was Mc Chord AFB in Tacoma, Washington from 1975 to 1979. This is where I elected to go to (NCLS) Non- Commissioned Leadership School at Barksdale AFB Calif. Tyndall AFB, FL was my next assignment, it was a great assignment. This is where I Graduated from (NCOA) Non Commissioned Acadyme 1984, locacted at Tyndall AFB FL. I earned Tyndall's (325th Medical Group's) "Senior Noncommissioned Officer Of The Quarter" for 1 Oct 1988 To 31 Dec 1988. My last tour of duty was Shaw AFB, SC. This is where I completed (SNCOA) The Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy and Extention Course, Air University and Extensioned Course, Air University.

Reflections on SMSgt Gould's US Air Force Service

 Reflections On My Service

PLEASE DESCRIBE WHO OR WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO JOIN THE AIR FORCE.
The United States was at war and I wanted to do my part to assist in the effort in Vietnam. I also loved the Marine Uniform!

I did join The Maine Corps for 4 years and went to Vietnam twice.

I attempted civilian life for 2 yrs than I joined the USAF for another 21 and one half years.
WHETHER YOU WERE IN THE SERVICE FOR SEVERAL YEARS OR AS A CAREER, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE DIRECTION OR PATH YOU TOOK. WHERE DID YOU GO TO BASIC TRAINING AND WHAT UNITS, BASES, OR SQUADRONS WERE YOU ASSIGNED TO? WHAT WAS YOUR REASON FOR LEAVING?
I served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 in The Marine Detachment for a two years assignment then the USMC issued orders to Vietnam for the whole unit. I was in Fire Direction Control/part time Forward Observer.

While in The USAF for 21 and one half years I was assigned to the Radiology Medical Career Field. After I completed NCO leadership school in 1979, Command NCO Academy in 1984. Allowing to be "The Commandant awarded The Diploma for Senior Non Commissioned Officer Academy Extension Course Institute this upgraded my AFSC to a 90399 Radiology Superintendent. Which helped me to fill another steping stone for promotion to SMSgt (E-8).
IF YOU PARTICIPATED IN ANY MILITARY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING COMBAT, HUMANITARIAN AND PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS, PLEASE DESCRIBE THOSE WHICH MADE A LASTING IMPACT ON YOU AND, IF LIFE-CHANGING, IN WHAT WAY?
Fm: 17 May 66 Participated in combat operations in the Republic of Vietnam To: 13 Jan 67.

FM: 01Dec 66 Participated in Operation SUTTER, RVN in the Republic of Vietnam To: 06 Dec 66.
OF ALL YOUR DUTY STATIONS OR ASSIGNMENTS, WHICH ONE DO YOU HAVE FONDEST MEMORIES OF AND WHY? WHICH WAS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE?
My fondest memories from a duty station was at Clarke AFB, located in Philippine Islands. This is where my wife and I adopted a very special baby girl. During this assignment I had the honor and the privilege to be placed in charge of a group of 20-30 Philippine National's X-ray Students as their Instructor representing Clark AFB Hospital.
FROM YOUR ENTIRE MILITARY SERVICE, DESCRIBE ANY MEMORIES YOU STILL REFLECT BACK ON TO THIS DAY.
Coming home from Vietnam serving in The Marine Detachment aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. Walking down the gang plank and seeing my parents walk right past me. I had such a dark sun tan in Vietnam that they didn't even recognize me and and walked right past me still looking for me.
WHAT PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF FROM YOUR MILITARY CAREER?
I didn't receive any medals or awards for Valor.
OF ALL THE MEDALS, AWARDS, FORMAL PRESENTATIONS AND QUALIFICATION BADGES YOU RECEIVED, OR OTHER MEMORABILIA, WHICH ONE IS THE MOST MEANINGFUL TO YOU AND WHY?
The Meritorious Service Medal was most meaningful because I worked hard for it!
WHICH INDIVIDUAL(S) FROM YOUR TIME IN THE MILITARY STAND OUT AS HAVING THE MOST POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOU AND WHY?
My Radiology Instructor from Wright Patterson AFB OH, Msgt Dieter Krause (Deceased) was always helping his students with deep concern and was an Outstanding Instructor!
CAN YOU RECOUNT A PARTICULAR INCIDENT FROM YOUR SERVICE, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN FUNNY AT THE TIME, BUT STILL MAKES YOU LAUGH?
While filling in as the interim 1st /Sgt I held a barracks Inspection. There was a lone Airman milling around outside the barracks. I stopped him with a question "What are you doing?"His reply was "I'm doing Airmen things Sergeant." I thought that it was funny at that time.
WHAT PROFESSION DID YOU FOLLOW AFTER YOUR MILITARY SERVICE AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW? IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY SERVING, WHAT IS YOUR PRESENT OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY?
When I first joined the Air Force my Recruiter wasn't sure what "Radiology" was. He took a guess and stated that "the term OLOGY Means: "The Study Of ;" therefore, Radiology means the study of Radio's.Radiology was my Chosen Career Profession. I did utilize this training for a while working at a local Hospital in Edmonds, Washington after my Retirement from the United States Air Force.

My son was trained by the USAF following his father footsteps and became a Registered X-Technologist and a Certified CT Technologist. He choose the working portion of X-Ray as I went into management.

WHAT MILITARY ASSOCIATIONS ARE YOU A MEMBER OF, IF ANY? WHAT SPECIFIC BENEFITS DO YOU DERIVE FROM YOUR MEMBERSHIPS?
(VVA) Vietnam Veterans of America - "Life Member".

(DVA) Disabled Veterans of America - "Life Member".
IN WHAT WAYS HAS SERVING IN THE MILITARY INFLUENCED THE WAY YOU HAVE APPROACHED YOUR LIFE AND YOUR CAREER? WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT YOUR TIME IN THE SERVICE?
The Military has taught me three things on my approach to life and career.

a. Organization.
b. Documentation.
c. Utilizing Problems Solving Solutions.
BASED ON YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY JOINED THE AIR FORCE?
My advise to those who are still serving is:

Learn as much as you can!

Retain what you have learned!

This will help you in your chosen career field, and promotions!
IN WHAT WAYS HAS TOGETHERWESERVED.COM HELPED YOU REMEMBER YOUR MILITARY SERVICE AND THE FRIENDS YOU SERVED WITH.
Just recently a friend found me using TWS. I haven't seen him since 1975. We were stationed together at Clark AFB, PI, in USAF Hospital Radiology Department. Just recently a fellow Marine that was stationed in Vietnam together, contacted me and paid a wonderful Tribute to a Fallen Friend, Sgt Ed Rollins.
